Barry Sealey
Barry Sealey was born and raised at Daylesford, Victoria. This is where he met his wife, Valerie. At the ripe old age of 18 Barry started working for the company called Stacey’s. Stacey’s worked in the bush cutting and carting pulp wood.
Barry then moved on to driving for Jimmy Neville from Hepburn. Barry stayed with them for around eight years before he was advised to give up driving due to a stomach ulcer. As advised Barry left driving and began working shift work in a factory. He would only last around 3 months before the need for driving got to him again.
Barry was then employed by Shelley’s transport in Bacchus Marsh carting general freight for about 12 months before moving on to work for Doots Transport where he drove Ballarat-Melbourne on the daily run. After working with Doots for some time, Barry got the owner driver bug and started up his own business in 1981.
Barry bought his first truck, a 280HP Scania 110 super with a triaxle trailer. He travelled Melbourne – Adelaide – Sydney and return. After about 18 months, Barry updated his truck. He traded the old Scania in on a newer 141 V8 385HP Scania which he used to run Adelaide – Melbourne for United Transport.
Barry then moved to local transport for T & T doing Ballarat – Melbourne.
For his final adventure Barry and his two sons, Michael and Graeme bought a small, locally owned transport company in Ballarat which saw them running general freight between Ballarat and Melbourne daily.
Barry became ill and retired at the age of 60, before passing at the age of 61.
