Joe Sepos
Joseph Sepos, affectionately known as Joe, was born in October 1950 in Newcastle, New South Wales. Coming from a family with a history of log carting and small batch chicken farming, Joe forged his path in transport after returning from national service. During his time in the army, he had learned the skills and become licenced as a truck driver.
In 1975, Joe with his wife Narelle and parents Joe and Ellena purchased their first Kenworth semi-trailer combination, marking the start of what would become a remarkable journey in transport.
Joe’s first job saw him delivering chicken feed to the Newcastle and Greater Sydney region, working long hours to prove himself. From the driver’s seat, Joe gained firsthand experience which would shape his understanding of the industry. Joe was hands-on from the start; driving, maintaining vehicles, coordinating logistics, and building relationships with clients. It wasn’t long before the Sepos family moved from being the small mum and dad, one truck operation of J.Sepos and Sons to founding of the JS Transport Group. The business has grown to a fleet of over 100 prime movers on the road today.
Over the decades, Joe has driven and overseen a fleet that has included Kenworths, Volvos, MANs, and Western Stars, each chosen for reliability across the tough Australian terrain. His loads were as varied as were the routes he travelled: from livestock and grain to swinging meat, frozen goods, and vital stockfeed. Operating along the vast east coast corridor, Joe faced the full extremes of Australian weather. From navigating washed-out backroads during floods to hauling critical freight in drought-stricken regions, each trip demanded precision, resilience, and deep industry knowledge.
Joe’s influence extended beyond his own company. He became involved with the Livestock, Bulk and Rural Carriers Association (LBCA) in the mid-1990s and has since been awarded Life Membership in recognition of his outstanding service and commitment to the association. During his time, he championed safety improvements and fairer policy for transport operators, and he continues to actively support the NSW LBRCA's work.
Today, Joe remains involved in the business, working alongside his four sons to shape the next generation of transport and farming professionals. Under his guidance, JS Transport Group has grown into a nationally respected enterprise with depots across all eastern states. The group’s portfolio has expanded to include both Stocktrans and the North Star Motors Truck dealership in Newcastle, adding another layer of strength and service to the company.
JS Transport is now recognised as a leader in innovation, providing livestock, poultry, and stockfeed transport to major Australian suppliers. Joe’s unwavering dedication to quality, integrity, and forward-thinking is evident in every part of the operation. Watching the JS fleet roll out each day, Joe takes pride in knowing the legacy he built continues to grow.
Joe Sepos' story is one of resilience, leadership, and a deep respect for the transport industry. From a single truck to an enduring legacy of over 50 years of brilliance, Joe’s journey captures the spirit of Australian trucking.
