Tony Kent
Tony “TK” Aubrey Kent is a true legend in the road transport industry, a long-time Goulburn local who has dedicated his life to the sector and shown an unwavering passion for trucks and driving. Born in 1967 as one of sixteen siblings, TK left school before completing Year 8 and, at just 14 years of age, moved out of home. From there, he began his working journey with a travelling carnival, which gave him the chance to explore New South Wales while learning about life on the road.
His path into the transport industry began when his father fell ill, prompting TK’s return to Goulburn. He worked as a driver and machine operator for R & P Delaney, and later, after purchasing his own truck and trailer, began contracting. TK's career took a major turn when, while on holiday in Queensland, he received a call from Andy Divall, offering him a position with Divall’s. This marked the beginning of a remarkable 35-year relationship with the company that would become his second family.
Over the years, TK’s commitment to Divall’s was unparalleled. Whether working long stints away from home or living on-site during some of the company's early projects, his loyalty and dedication were unwavering. During this time TK meet his wife-to-be Donna Kent and their family grew to include two beautiful daughters, Annie and Emily. In the year 2000, TK shifted from driving to become the coordinator for trucks and drivers, a role that expanded as Divall’s business grew. Notably, he helped establish Goulburn Sand and Soil that same year. His love for the job has never wavered, and even as Procurement Manager, TK is always ready to jump into a truck when needed, demonstrating his team spirit and hands-on approach.
A true enthusiast of trucks, TK has driven every model of Kenworth and even restored classic trucks like the White 4000. His driving legacy includes iconic moments, such as operating Divall’s third truck, a Kenworth T400 famously known as “Cause for Divorce,” a name that echoed the truck’s notorious reputation.
TK’s career has not only been defined by his professional roles but also his involvement in the community. He has participated in numerous charity events, including the Crawlin' the Hume drive, the Canberra Convoy for Kids, and the Goulburn Convoy for Kids. He is a member of the Livestock Bulk & Rural Carriers Association and various vintage truck clubs, where his passion for the industry meets his dedication to giving back. Additionally, his classic truck collection has earned him accolades, including "Best in Show" at the 2021 Bredbo Truck & Machinery Show.
With his decades of service, leadership, and contributions to both Divall’s and the broader transport community, TK embodies the spirit of the National Road Transport Hall of Fame.
His impact on the industry is immeasurable, and his legacy is firmly established.
