Grant Johnson

Grant James Johnson, born in August 1982, embarked on a 25-year journey in the transportation industry after leaving his job as a boilermaker. With his wife Gillian and their three children Brenton, Jordan, and Jessica at home, Grant decided to follow in his father’s footsteps. His father, John, affectionately known as JJ, carted bitumen across the country.

In 2018, Grant and Gillian started their own company, Granlian Haulage Pty Ltd. They purchased a 2007 Kenworth 604 from Grant’s brother Heath, and they were away. Grant started with his 604 and enjoyed it so much that he upgraded to his sparkling pride and joy, a Kenworth 909 in 2020.

Currently, Grant is contracted to Downer Bitumen Transport. He has been with the company for six years, carting bitumen across Australia and outback areas, sometimes living away for months at a time. During his travels, Grant has developed a penchant for collecting stubby holders from every pub and roadhouse he stops at.

Grant's truck is recognisable from miles away. He takes great care to maintain it, rain, hail or shine, making it one of the cleanest trucks around. His brother has a matching 909. Both brothers, when they are home, spend a considerable amount of time on their trucks, with Grant recruiting Gill to help with all aspects of cleaning his truck and making sure it's well stocked for the next trip.

Recently, Grant's son Brenton married, and the couple made a grand entrance at the ceremony in the trucks, asking for them to be in all the photos.

Grant has a special interest in older trucks and owns a 1947 Chevrolet Flatbed Truck that he affectionately calls the Green Machine. On rare occasions, when he is home and there is a truck show on, Grant and Gill would be out on the road, heading off to display their pride and joy.

Grant has devoted his life to the transportation industry and is looking forward to many more years of driving. Grant will be driving in style and serious comfort when his newly ordered 909 arrives shortly.
