Albert (Bert) Hogben, Born February 1938 in Toora, Victoria.
After leaving school he worked on the family farm until the age of 19 when he went to Melbourne and got a job with Southern Milk Transport, picking up canned milk from dairy farms and delivering it to milk depots all over Melbourne.
In 1962 he married Nola and they have 3 sons. After getting
married Bert needed more money to support his growing family so he moved on to Interstate transport, driving one of the first Seattle Kenworth’s to come to Australia for G.N Blomfield. Melbourne to Sydney and Brisbane.
He drove locally for a while, but went back to Interstate transport working for Ansett Freight Express for some years, later
transferring to Ansett Pioneer Express, later taken over by other companies, and ending up as Greyhound Pioneer.
Bert became Driver Supervisor for Greyhound Pioneer Employing, Training, Surveying, and Assessing Coach Captains.
After all this, Bert slowed down and worked for Grenda’s Bus lines in Melbourne on Local work.
During his long and distinguished career in the transport industry, he set a standard and cared about the business and passengers to press those around towards the same level of excellence. This
attitude did not always make him universally popular in an age when so many people look for the easy way out
Now semi-retired worked as a casual school bus driver for
Westernport Roadlines (Part of the Dineen Group) until finally
retiring from the industry in March 2024, aged 86 years.
Inducted in 2024
