History of this Vehicle:

This vehicle was found abandoned in the bush near the gold fields in Leonora, W.A. in 1972. D. Simpson took 10 years to restore the derelict truck to its original condition.

This truck is the commercial version of the famous Model T known as ‘Tin Lizzie’. Based on Model T mechanics it had several unique features. It was rated at 1 ton and had a stronger frame, worm-gear differential and solid-rubber rear tyres. Initially it came only as a chassis with cab until 1924 when Ford offered the Express Body with a pickup bed. The high ground clearance made it an ideal choice for the generally corrugated, rough, dusty and occasionally flooded outback roads. In Australia the ‘TT’ was sometimes called the ‘Squatter’s Joy’ because of its popularity with farmers and pastoralists. This is one of Ford’s last vehicles fitted with oil head lamps. The price of a ‘TT’ in 1921 was £147 & 10 shillings or about $260 AUD. The wheel-base is 123 inches (312 cm) and the 20 BHP, 4-cylinder engine produced a top speed of 28 miles/hour (45 km/h).
