Barry Darlington

1942-2024 RIP

Barry (Bazza) Darlington was born in Penrith, New South Wales in 1942. After leaving school he got a job as

mechanic. He then got a job as an offsider with a local freight company, until he got his class C licence. Barry drove old Inters, Bedfords and Fords for a local carrier then started driving tippers for the quarries.

Barry started his owner/driver career 1972 when he purchased a 1959 AA180 Inter with a tipper body. He

purchased a 1968 Loadstar Inter V8 petrol bogie drive. Barry’s first prime mover was a 1968 AB Inter with a 160

Cummins 5 speed box, 2 speed diff with a 22 ft single axle tipper and pusher axle in the front. Next purchase was an ACCO Inter with a 555 Cummins and a 28 ft bogie tipper.

This was traded in on a brand new ACCO Inter 3070 903 Cummins 9 speed box bogie driver with Jack brakes – his first big banger! Barry traded it in for a new 2670 S-Line Inter 270 Cummins 15 speed box and update trailer with a second hand tri axle tipper. Barry’s last prime mover was a Ford LTL 9000 400 CAT 15 speed box and the old tipper.

Barry decided to semi-retire so he purchased an old Ford LNT 8000 with a 210 cat 13 speed box bogie drive with a tipper working for the local quarries. He sold it and retired at 65 but couldn’t get the trucks out of his veins, so hebrought an old 1968 C Line Inter and started restoring itand got the bug back!

Barry has now restored a 1970 D Line Inter with a 160Cummins named Shirley’s Pride. He also restored a 1982

S Line with a 230 Cummins called Bazza’s Blood, at 73 andretired, Barry is now a fleet owner. Barry enjoys going around to old truck shows, catching up with old mates.

Barry is a proud husband, father of 2 sons and grandfather

6 grandchildren and a very proud Truckie!
