Kenneth Post

Kenneth Arthur Post was born in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales in May 1945. Ken owned and operated Post’s Diesel Service and Post’s Transport, both located in Wagga Wagga. Ken is married to Lorraine, and they have two children, Gregory and Natalie.

In 1960, Ken started as an apprentice car mechanic working at Don Jones Tyre Service and he spent his weekends servicing and working on Sid Nash and Son’s Trucks. This is where he discovered his enjoyment of working with heavy vehicles. In 1968, Ken started working full time for Sid Nash as a heavy vehicle mechanic. During his time there, Ken attended six Cummins’ schools which were held in Sydney and Melbourne, furthering his knowledge of Cummins engines.

In 1972, while still working for Nash and Sons, Ken became the proud owner of his very first truck, a C1800 International with a 36-foot flat top trailer. The C160 engine needed a complete rebuild and by the time Ken had completed the job, his younger brother Ian had decided to become a truck drive. Ian became the full-time driver of Ken’s truck, carting grain from Wagga Wagga to Melbourne and returning with plaster board to either Canberra or Wagga Wagga.

In 1974, Ken resigned from Nash and Sons and started Post’s Diesel Service in Blaxland Road. He specialized in repairing heavy duty gear boxes and diffs, as well as engine rebuilds on all types of engines, including Cummins. Post’s Diesel Service then became a parts and service dealer for Scania Truck who took Ken to Sweden so he could tour the Scania factory.

Later on, Ken became the parts and service dealer for Volvo trucks. In 1982, Ken’s son Gregory started his apprenticeship at Post’s Diesel Service before moving into driving trucks.

By 1984, Ken had 14 trucks, so it was time to change the business name to Post’s Transport. Ken and Lorraine purchased a 6.7-acre premises on Hammond Ave, Wagga Wagga, which had a new workshop, offices and a large warehouse. The new warehouse allowed Post’s Transport to branch into warehouse storage, becoming the distribution centre for Uncle Toby’s Oats.

Post’s Transport continued to grow its fleet, transporting freight to Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Adelaide. They carted loads of wool, flour, Laminex, shipping containers and meat, to the ports. The fleet mainly consisted of Kenworth Cabover’s, with one Aerodyne, all with Cummin’s engines and a A2224 Mercedes-Benz yard truck. Ken and Lorraine were given the opportunity to go to America with Cummins touring across seven states and seeing the various Cummins factories.

One of Ken’s worst memories is of the time in 1990 when a fuel company accidently filled the company’s fuel bowser with petrol instead of diesel. Six of Ken’s trucks needed new turbos and injectors, and all of the trucks had to have their tanks pumped out.

After suffering a heart attack in 1998 Ken needed to focus on his health so in 2000 Post’s Transport was sold to Peter Rodney’s Transport. By this time, due to the dedication of Ken, Lorraine and their staff, Post’s Transport had 30 prime movers and 41 trailers. Most staff from Post’s Transport went to work for Rodney’s Transport.

After buying a rural property in 2002 Ken retired to work on the farm. Recently, Ken has been contacted by several people who have purchased his old trucks and are in the process of refurbishing them, with the aim of taking them to truck shows across Australia. Today Ken and Lorraine are still running their farm and enjoy spending time with their family.
