Jamie O’Grady
James Leslie O'Grady, known as Jamie, was born in May 1967. His birthplace, the seaside town of Ballina in New South Wales, is known for its stunning beaches and vibrant coastal lifestyle. Jamie is the youngest of six siblings. His parents were Thomas (Dec.), known as Tom, and Betty (Dec.) O’Grady. Jamie has two adult sons, Jake and Joseph O’Grady.
In 1991, Jamie embarked on his transport venture with a modest 1984 Datsun ute. Fueled by his ambition and determination, he took the initiative to contact local furniture and electrical retailers within the community. He presented them with an innovative concept: offering delivery services for customers, where the customer pays for the delivery of their goods, saving local businesses money by eliminating the need to purchase a truck and reducing staff costs on the store floor. This idea showcased his entrepreneurial spirit and aimed to bridge the gap between the stores and their clients, ensuring a seamless shopping experience for their customers.
As the far north coast developed and grew in population, Jamie created and opened his transportation business, Ballina Jet-Lite Couriers, on April 13, 1992. The business consisted of a Daihatsu Delta 3-tonne truck and a Datsun ute, with Jamie operating the business from behind the truck's wheel and an offsider assisting with deliveries and removals.
Jamie sold the Jet-Lite business and founded J&J’s Transport and Removals Ballina on October 24, 1994. The business was named after his two sons, Jake and Joseph. The company started with a Toyota Dyna 3-tonne truck and the Datsun ute. He built the business from scratch, driving the truck himself and assisted by one offsider. Jamie developed the business by working 7 days a week, with excellent customer service and reliability. Local businesses were thrilled with Jamie’s quality of work, dependability and constant availability. The removal side of the business grew due to word of mouth throughout the local area; Jamie’s work ethic was strong, the business provided value for money, and Jamie would take the jobs most removalists did not want.
After years of dedicated service in the driving and delivery operations of the transport industry, Jamie has now stepped back from the day-to-day workings of the business. His two sons, Jake and Joseph, have taken over the reins, managing the operations with great enthusiasm and skill. Under the leadership of Jamie, Jake, and Joseph, the business has flourished and expanded, achieving a significant milestone by acquiring Ballina Removals, further enhancing their service offerings in the transport sector, and expanding their operations to cover both local and interstate areas. The business now consists of 2 UD Crane Trucks 2023, 1 Isuzu Forklift truck 2010, 2 flatbed trucks 2019, 16 Isuzu, UD and Volvo Pantech trucks, 4 Toyota utes and1 Volvo Semi Removal Truck 2025.
