Daniel Cahill
Daniel Cahill and Michael Cahill, the sons of well-known 2005 inductee, the late Joe Cahill Jnr, inherited their father’s passion for the transport industry. The family’s transport lineage stretches back over a century, when Daniel and Michael’s great-grandfather, John Cahill, started carrying freight with a horse and cart to the Nymagee copper mine. It then followed that their grandfather, Joe Cahill Snr, was also in the transport industry as the general manager for Yellow Express Carriers in Victoria. In 1951, his son, Joe Cahill Jnr — Daniel and Michael’s father — purchased his own Ford semi-trailer and started in the transport industry.
Today, Daniel and Michael are the proud owners and directors of Cahill Transport, after having purchased the business from their late father, Joe Jnr, in 1989.
When Daniel and Michael took over, Cahill Transport was a Melbourne-based transport company with a small, aging fleet of ten trucks. Together, the brothers have developed the business into a prominent national end-to-end logistics operator with eight warehouses spread across six states, 200 state-of-the-art prime movers on the road, and 300 trailers. Their diverse fleet includes rigid trucks, container side loaders for wharf work, refrigerated trailers, mezzanine floor drop-deck trailers, A-double and B-triple combinations.
Under Daniel and Michael’s leadership, Cahill Transport continues to be innovative with the latest technology. They have focused on how to efficiently deliver services to their customers with improved efficiency. The desire to be at the forefront of the latest technologies is reflected in the brothers’ investment in telematics, automation, warehouse control systems, and fleet management technologies — all designed to improve safety and outcomes.
The Cahill brothers currently employ 330 people, with a focus on building employees from the ground up, with many of the most experienced leaders in the business beginning their careers in logistics at Cahill Transport.
Daniel and Michael are invested in their customers and staff and are eager to see the near 75-year Cahill Transport legacy live on.
