Shane Paul Ruhl was born on 21st of April 1986 in Colac, Victoria. Precious son of Paul and Annette, hero father to Nelly-May (15 yrs) and Letty-Jaye (8 yrs), adored brother and brother-in-law to Stacey and Lincoln, Elisha and Steve, Marli and Kane, cheeky uncle to many, alongside finding a new partner & family to love, Elyssia and her 2 children.
On Sunday the 11th of February 2024 Shane was tragically taken in a Microlight accident in Colac West.
Shane and his father Paul always had a passion for flying and many years ago they decided to take up the hobby and completed all relevant training in flying Microlites. They purchased their own Microlites, but unfortunately didn’t master that final flight.
Shane loved all things Ford.
He was a passionate truck driver for over 16 years and travelled Australia wide for various companies, including: Wheadon’s transport, Lane Transport, Don McKay farm supplies, Heytesbury Stock Feeds, Booth Transport, Balcombe Bulk Haulage and Layanda Transport.
Although Shane didn’t make it to 25 years of service in the truck industry his dream in life was to eventually be an Owner Driver.
His career started when he worked at Wheadon’s transport as a truck tyre fitter, where he always had the urge to test drive each truck after every job and taught himself how to drive a B-Double, this is where Shane’s obsession for truck driving began.
He drove a variety of trucks including Western Star, Freightliner Argosy, International Eagle and Kenworth’s including a T909.
Shane was renowned for his hard work ethics, whilst always taking pride in how his truck looked.
The love from the trucking community shone bright on the day of Shane’s farewell, where an epic 40 truck convoy led the procession along with many Ford vehicles.
The Ruhl Family were overwhelmed with the love and support shown for Shane and appreciated the generosity that all the Companies contributed to making the convoy come together.
Shane’s most recent truck that he drove for Layanda transport, a Kenworth T909 has also had a permanent tribute painted on its back wall “Shane’s Ride Take Pride “along with personalize number plates SRT 909.
Shane enjoyed everything outdoors including annual trips to Bathurst with the boys, crossing the Simpson Desert with his dad Paul.
This years 2024 LAND TRANSPORT TRUCK & UTE show in Colac,
Victoria held a minute silence in Shane’s Honor, along with presenting an award ‘RUHLY’S Take Pride Award’.
